Unlock the vault
Kaspersky Password Manager automatically blocks access to the vault after a specified period of inactivity or when the screen saver turns on. By default, the vault is locked automatically after your computer has been idle for 10 minutes. You can access your data only when the vault is unlocked.
Unlock the vault from the application icon menu
- In the menu bar, click the Kaspersky Password Manager icon.
- In the application icon menu, enter the main password and then click Unlock.
The vault is now unlocked and the application continues running in the background.
Unlock the vault from the main application window
Enter the main password and click UNLOCK.
Unlock the vault from the browser extension
- In the browser toolbar, click
to open the extension menu. - In the extension menu, enter the main password and click Unlock.
The vault is now unlocked.
If your device supports Touch ID and Touch ID is enabled in Kaspersky Password Manager, you can also use it to unlock the vault.
Configure autolock time
- Open the application pull-down menu and choose Preferences.
The application preferences window opens.
- On the General tab, in the Autolock the vault pop-up menu, choose how long Kaspersky Password Manager waits before locking the vault.
By default, the vault is locked after your computer has been idle for 10 minutes.

Add entries to the vault
Websites and applications
You can add an entry for a website in one of the following ways:
Entries for applications can be added only from the main application window.
Add a website from the main application window
- Open the Websites section of the main application window.
- Click
. - In the right pane of the window, enter a name and address of the website.
Note: You can specify whether you want to associate accounts in this entry with the entire website or with its specific area.
- Add a new account by clicking
and specify a name of the website account, and a login, and password for signing in to the website. Add a comment if needed. For security reasons Kaspersky Password Manager hides the password and replaces it with dots. To view data, click
.If you want Kaspersky Password Manager to sign you in to the website automatically, turn on autologin. If you have added more than one account, in the pop-up menu, choose the credentials for automatic sign in.
- Click Save.
Add a website from a browser window
- Open a website sign-in page in one of the supported browsers that have the Kaspersky Password Manager extension installed.
- In the browser toolbar, click
to open the extension menu. - If the vault is locked, enter the main password and click Unlock.
- Enter your login and password in the relevant fields and sign in to the website.
Kaspersky Password Manager recognizes the website as new and prompts you to add it to Kaspersky Password Manager. The Save this account? window opens.
- Click Save to add a new website to Kaspersky Password Manager.
If the website already exists in Kaspersky Password Manager, the application prompts you to add a new account for the existing website.
Similarly, when you create, change, or restore your password for the website, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to save or update it in the application.
Add an application from the main application window
You can save multiple
for signing in to the same website or application. When you visit a website, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to choose the account that you want to use to sign in from the list of available accounts. If you sign in with a login that has not been added to Kaspersky Password Manager yet, the application automatically recognizes the login as new and prompts you to add another account for the website.
You can manually add and edit new accounts for a website or application at any time in the main application window.
If you sign in to a website with the existing login and a new password, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to save the new password for the existing account.
Add a new account from the main application window
- Open the Websites or Applications section of the main application window.
- Select a website or application and click
or
> Edit. - Add a new account by clicking
and enter a new account name, login, password, and comment in the relevant fields. - For website accounts, if you want Kaspersky Password Manager to sign you in automatically, turn on autologin and in the pop-up menu, choose the credentials for automatic sign in.
- Click Save.
Bank cards, documents, addresses, and notes
Add a bank card from the main application window
- Open the Bank Cards section of the main application window.
- Click
to add a new bank card. - In the right pane of the window, fill in the fields related to your bank card: card name, card issuer, card number, card holder, card expiration date, CVC2/CVV2 code, and PIN. You can also specify a card color, international support and customer support phone numbers, and a comment. If the field contains important financial details, Kaspersky Password Manager hides this important data and replaces it with dots. To view the data, click
. - Click Save.
Add a bank card from a browser window
- Open a website where you need to enter your bank card details in one of the supported browsers that have the Kaspersky Password Manager extension installed.
- In the browser toolbar, click
to open the extension menu. - If the vault is locked, enter the main password and click Unlock.
- Enter your bank card details in the relevant fields and save the data.
Kaspersky Password Manager recognizes the bank card as new and prompts you to add it to Kaspersky Password Manager. The Save this bank card? window opens.
- Enter a name for this bank card entry.
- Click Save to add the new bank card to Kaspersky Password Manager.
Add a document
- Open the Documents section of the main application window.
- Click
> Browse for Files to add a new document.The document selection window opens in Finder. By default, Kaspersky Password Manager opens the Documents folder.
- Select a document you want to store in Kaspersky Password Manager and click Open.
The Add document window opens.
- In the Document’s category pop-up menu, select the document category.
Note: Kaspersky Password Manager assigns a document category automatically, but you can change it. You can choose one of the following document categories: Bank Cards, Contracts, Driver’s Licenses, Insurances, Passports/IDs, and Other.
- If you don't want Kaspersky Password Manager to delete the source document file from your computer (which it would otherwise do for security reasons), desiring to keep only a copy in the vault, deselect the Delete the source file checkbox. This checkbox is selected by default.
- Click Add.
Note: Kaspersky Password Manager can't add password-protected PDF-files, files larger than 20 MB, or images larger than 100 MB, with resolution less than 256x256 px or higher than 40 MP.
- When you add a PNG image, a BMP image, or a big JPEG image, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to allow the image to be optimized for storage. If you don't allow the image to be optimized, it won't be added to the vault
PNG and BMP images are compressed and converted to JPEG format, and big JPEG images are just compressed. The final size of an image in the vault is no more than 6 MB.
The document entry appears in the right pane of the window.
Add an address from the main application window
- Open the Addresses section of the main application window.
- Click
to add a new entry. - In the right pane of the window, fill in the relevant fields with the information you want to keep in this entry.
- If you want Kaspersky Password Manager to use this address for filling out forms on websites, in the primary address section, set this address as your primary address by using the switch.
Note: You can set only one address as primary. When you set a new address as primary, the previously set primary address is no longer used for autofilling forms on websites.
- Click
Add Email to enter your email address into the relevant field.Note: You can add up to 10 email addresses for one address entry.
- Click
Add Phone Number to enter your phone number into the relevant field.Note: You can add up to 10 phone numbers for one address entry.
- Click Save.
Add an address from a browser window
- Open a website where you need to enter your address in one of the supported browsers that have the Kaspersky Password Manager extension installed.
- In the browser toolbar, click
to open the extension menu. - If the vault is locked, enter the main password and click Unlock.
- Enter your address details in the relevant fields and save the data.
Kaspersky Password Manager recognizes the address as new and prompts you to add it to Kaspersky Password Manager. The Save this address? window opens.
- Enter a name for this address entry.
- Click Save to add the new address to Kaspersky Password Manager.
Add a note
- Open the Notes section of the main application window.
- Click
. - In the right pane of the window, enter a name for the note and type the text of the note.
- Click Save.

Sort and group entries, customize entry view
By default, entries are displayed in the tile view in alphabetical order. You can switch to the list view, sort entries manually, and create folders to group entries. You can add entries of any type to a folder. Folders are always displayed before entries in alphabetical order and can't be sorted manually. Folders sync across your devices. Sort and view settings don't sync across devices.
Change entries view
In the main application window, click
(list view) or
(tile view).
Sort entries manually
Drag and drop an entry to a new position or folder.
If you have manually sorted entries in a section, all newly added entries are displayed at the end of the section in alphabetical order. Entries sorted in the Websites section are automatically sorted the same way in the browser extension.
Create a folder
- Open the All Entries section of the main application window.
- Click
> Folder to create a new folder. - In the window that opens, enter a folder name into the relevant field.
- Click Create.
The folder appears in the All Entries section.
Move entries to folders
Do one of the following:
- Drag and drop an entry to a folder.
- Choose an entry and click
> Move > <Folder Name>.
Note: You can select several entries and move them to a folder simultaneously. To select several entries, press and hold the Command key.
You can reset custom sort preferences to display all entries in alphabetical order in all sections. If you reset custom sort preferences, they can't be restored.

Use autosave and autofill
Automatically save data
When you visit websites and enter logins, passwords, bank card details, or addresses in online forms, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to add them to the vault.
Sign in to websites
When you visit a website, Kaspersky Password Manager searches for accounts that you have saved for that website. Based on the search results and your current preferences, Kaspersky Password Manager may either sign you in, offer accounts to choose from, or prompt you to create a new account:
- If there is one account for the website, Kaspersky Password Manager fills out the login and password.
- If there are multiple accounts for the website, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to choose the account that you want to sign in with.
- If there are no accounts for the website, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to add one.
Note: In order for the browser extension to work, the vault must be unlocked.
If you have enabled automatic sign in and have chosen a default account for the website, Kaspersky Password Manager will sign you in automatically, by using the default account.
Note: Kaspersky Password Manager can't sign you in automatically if CAPTCHA is used on the website.
Open and automatically sign in to a website from the main application window
- Open the Websites section or the All Entries section of the main application window.
- Select the website that you want to go to and click Open and Sign In.
The website opens in a browser window and Kaspersky Password Manager signs you in automatically using the selected account.
Sign in to a website using the extension for Safari
- Open the website that you want to sign in to in Safari.
- In the browser toolbar, click
to open the extension menu. - If the vault is locked, enter the main password and click Unlock. If your device supports Touch ID and Touch ID is enabled in Kaspersky Password Manager, you can also use it to unlock the vault.
The extension menu displays the accounts saved for the current website and the list of other websites added to Kaspersky Password Manager.
- In the extension menu, hover over the account that you want to sign in with and click Sign in with this account.
You will be signed in to the website.
Sign in to a website using the extension for Firefox or Chrome
- Open the website that you want to sign in to in Firefox or Chrome.
- In the browser toolbar, click
to open the extension menu. - If the vault is locked, enter the main password and click Unlock.
The extension menu displays the accounts saved for the current website as well as the list of other websites added to Kaspersky Password Manager.
- In the Available Accounts list, select the account that you want to sign in with and click Sign in with this account.
You will be signed in to the website.
Automatically fill out addresses and bank card details
When you shop online, Kaspersky Password Manager searches the vault for bank cards and addresses to fill the shipping and payment fields. If the vault contains appropriate entries, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to choose the address or bank card that you want to use for the online form.
You can disable autosave and autofill if you don't want Kaspersky Password Manager to fill out online forms for you.

Enable and disable autosave and autofill
Kaspersky Password Manager can automatically save information when you fill out an online form. The application can then fill out online forms for you. You can turn on autosave and autofill for accounts, addresses, and bank cards.
When autosave is enabled, each time you enter a new password, address, or bank card details on a website, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to save them in your vault.
Enable and disable autosave and autofill
- Open the application pull-down menu and choose Preferences.
The application preferences window opens.
- On the Browsers tab, in the Autosave and autofill section, choose the types of data for which you want to enable/disable autosave and autofill by selecting/deselecting the corresponding checkboxes.
By default, the Logins and passwords, Addresses, and Bank cards checkboxes are selected.
Your changes will be saved automatically.

Sync data across devices
When you add data to your vault on one device, the application automatically sends this data to cloud storage, and then from cloud storage to your other devices that have Kaspersky Password Manager installed and that are connected to My Kaspersky using the same My Kaspersky account. Keeping your data up-to-date and consistent on all your devices also helps restore your data if you replace or lose a device.
Sync the data vault on your device with other devices
- Do one of the following:
- In the lower-left corner of the main application window, click your email address.
- Open the application pull-down menu and choose Sync status.
- In the window that opens, click Sync Now.

Manage your vault online
You can manage data in your vault from any device connected to the Internet.
Access your vault online
- Go to https://my.kaspersky.com/MyPasswords.
- Click Sign In.
The sign-in form opens.
- Enter the login and password of the My Kaspersky account that you have used to connect the application to My Kaspersky.
- Click Sign In.
The Passwords section of your My Kaspersky account opens.
- Enter the main password and click Unlock storage.
The vault is unlocked and your data is available for viewing and editing.

Import data
Keeping all your passwords in a single trusted application streamlines signing in to websites and applications as well as filling out online forms.
Kaspersky Password Manager supports importing logins and passwords from the latest versions of the following applications that were available when Kaspersky Password Manager was released: LastPass, KeePass, Dashlane, 1Password, and Norton Identity Safe 2014 (included in the latest version of Norton Security).
Important: You can only import data from a CSV file. Make sure to choose this format when exporting data from other applications.
Import passwords from a CSV file
- In the menu bar, click File > Import from CSV.
- In the window that opens, select a CSV file that contains the data that you want to import and click Open.
When the import is finished, Kaspersky Password Manager displays the import status window with the number of accounts that have been imported successfully.
Note: You can only import accounts for websites.
- Click OK to close the import status window.
For websites that already exist in your vault, accounts with new logins are added to the list of existing accounts. Accounts that have a matching login in the vault are not imported even if their passwords differ.
For websites that are not yet in Kaspersky Password Manager, import behavior depends on your version of the application. In the premium version, they are imported as active and are added to the list of existing websites. In the free version, they are imported as inactive. Inactive websites are displayed in the main application window below active ones. You can manually activate imported websites until you reach the free version's limitation.
Activate a website

> Make Active.

Use Favorites
You can add entries to Favorites and access them quickly from the Favorites section. You can also quickly access websites added to Favorites from the browser extension menu.

If you have disabled automatic login, Kaspersky Password Manager will automatically fill out the login and password fields with the default credentials for the website.

Kaspersky Password Manager saves the last 5 websites you open from the main application window or the Kaspersky Password Manager extension.
View recently visited websites using the browser extension

Search the vault for data
In Kaspersky Password Manager, you can quickly find the data you need by searching for any of the following:
- Website name or address
- Application name
- Login for a website or an application
- Document name

Scan your computer for important documents
Kaspersky Password Manager helps save time and scans your device for files that may contain sensitive information. The application searches for JPEG, PNG, BMP, and PDF files containing text. The files found during the search are analyzed and assigned to categories. You can view the search results, choose which documents to add to your vault, and change document categories.
Kaspersky Password Manager supports the following document categories:
- Passports/IDs
- Driver Licenses
- Bank Cards
- Insurances
- Contracts
- Other
Note: During the search, Kaspersky Password Manager skips password-protected PDF files, PDF-files larger than 20 MB, and images larger than 100 MB, with resolution less than 256x256 px or higher than 40 MP.
If an image is too big, Kaspersky Password Manager compresses the original image before adding it to your vault. If the original size of an image is larger than 100 MB, Kaspersky Password Manager can't compress it. The final size of an image in the vault is no more than 6 MB. PNG and BMP images are converted to JPEG format.
Before adding documents found during the search to your vault, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to delete the original files from your device for security reasons. If you need documents from your vault, you can export them to your device at any time.
Scan your computer for important documents
- Open the Documents section of the main application window.
- Click
> Search Automatically. - In the window that opens, select the folder you want to scan for documents and click Open.
Kaspersky Password Manager starts searching. You can minimize the application window, the search will continue in the background. The search results are displayed in the Found Documents window.
- Select the documents you want to add to your vault and click Add.
Kaspersky Password Manager automatically defines a category for each document, which you can change if needed.
- Before adding documents found during the search to your vault, Kaspersky Password Manager prompts you to delete the original files from your device for security reasons. Click Delete to allow this.
The document entries appear in the right pane of the window.

Download documents from your vault
You can save documents from your vault to your device. You can change the document name before saving it on your device.
The format of a downloaded file matches the format of the document in the vault (JPEG or PDF).
Note: After you save a document on your device, it is no longer protected by Kaspersky Password Manager. You must protect the file on your own.
Download documents from your vault
- Open the Documents section or the All Entries section of the main application window.
- Select a document you want to download.
- Click
> Save As. - In the window that opens, specify the folder where you want to save the document.
- If needed, change the document name.
- Click Save.
The document will be saved to your computer.

Change the main password
For security reasons, it is recommended that you change your main password on a regular basis. If you suspect that your main password may have been compromised, change it immediately.
Note: You can only change the main password if your Mac is connected to the Internet and there are no synchronization issues.
Change the main password
- Open the application pull-down menu and choose Preferences.
The application preferences window opens.
- On the General tab, in the Main password section, click Change.
The window for changing the main password opens.
- Enter your current main password.
If your device supports Touch ID and Touch ID is enabled in Kaspersky Password Manager, you can use it instead of entering the current main password.
- Enter a new main password.
- Confirm your new main password.
- Click Change to apply the new main password.
After
, the main password will be changed on all your devices.

What to do if you have forgotten the main password
If you forget your main password, your data will no longer be available. If this happens, you can create a new data vault with a new main password. However, all data from the old vault on all your devices will be lost and you will then have to manually add all your entries to the new data vault.
Create a new data vault protected with a new main password
- In the main application window, click the Forgot your main password? link.
- In the alert that appears, click Create New Vault if you agree to create a new data vault.
- In the alert that appears, click Continue to create a new data vault for all your devices.
Note: Creating a new data vault will delete all data protected with the forgotten main password from all your devices.
- In the alert that appears, enter the password for your My Kaspersky account and click Continue.
The Main password window opens.
- Enter the new main password twice and click Continue.
The new data vault protected with the new main password is now created. All data protected with the old main password will be deleted from all devices connected to your My Kaspersky account.

Check password security
Your accounts are at greater risk if they have the same or weak passwords (for example, qwerty, 12345) or passwords based on information that can be easily guessed or obtained (for example, names of relatives or dates of birth).
With Kaspersky Password Manager, you can quickly find out how strong your passwords are and whether the same passwords are used in multiple accounts.
For additional security, Kaspersky Password Manager can check whether your passwords have been hacked or leaked.
The application uses Secure Hash Algorithm 256 (SHA-256) to check for compromised passwords. The application generates SHA-256 message digests from each password in your vault and compares them with SHA-256 messages from a database of compromised passwords. If the SHA-256 messages match, the application warns you that your password is compromised and you better change it.
Show/hide information about password security
- Open the Websites or Applications section of the main application window.
- In the upper part of the main application window, click
to show information about password security. - Click
once again to hide information about password security.
For each account stored for a website or an application, Kaspersky Password Manager checks:
- Password strength: low, medium, or high.
- Whether the password is compromised.
- Number of accounts that share the same password.
- List of websites or applications that have accounts with duplicate passwords. You can click
to expand the list.
You can go to a website that has an account with a duplicate or compromised password by clicking Change Password.
When you type a password in an online registration form, the Kaspersky Password Manager extension displays a card with recommendations on how to create a strong password and information about the strength of the password you are typing in.

Generate a strong password
The security of your data largely depends on the strength of your password. A password is considered strong if it contains at least eight characters, including uppercase and lowercase Latin letters, digits, and special characters. Kaspersky Password Manager generates unique and strong passwords. You can specify the password length and choose whether to include digits and special characters. You can use Password Generator when you create a new website account or change your password for an existing account.
Generate a strong password
- Open the Password Generator window in one of the following ways:
- Click the application icon in the menu bar and choose Password Generator.
- In the browser toolbar, click
>
> Generate Strong Password.
The Password Generator window opens, and the application generates a password using the default parameters.
- If needed, change the parameters of the generated password:
- In the Password length pop-up menu, specify the number of characters to be used when generating passwords.
The default password length is 16 characters.
- If you want Kaspersky Password Manager to generate a password with uppercase letters, select the Uppercase letters (A–Z) checkbox.
This checkbox is selected by default.
- If you want Kaspersky Password Manager to generate a password with lowercase letters, select the Lowercase letters (a–z) checkbox.
This checkbox is selected by default.
- If you want Kaspersky Password Manager to generate a password with digits, select the Digits (0–9) checkbox.
This checkbox is selected by default.
- If you want Kaspersky Password Manager to generate a password with special characters, select the checkbox next to the list of special characters.
This checkbox is selected by default.
- If needed, edit the list of special characters.
The application automatically generates new passwords when the parameters are changed.
- If you want to generate another password using the specified parameters, click
. - Click Copy to copy the generated password to the clipboard.
The application copies the generated password to the clipboard.
You can manually paste the password into the required field. If you use Password Generator to create a new website account or change your password for an existing account, the application automatically pastes the password into the required field.
Kaspersky Password Manager saves the last 5 generated passwords copied to the clipboard, in case you forget them. You can view your copied passwords in the Password Generator history. The application stores copied passwords on your computer and doesn't sync them across devices.
If your vault is locked, the Password Generator is unavailable.
View the Password Generator history
- Open the Password Generator window in one of the following ways:
- Click the application icon in the menu bar and choose Password Generator.
- In the browser toolbar, click
>
> Generate Strong Password.
The Password Generator window opens, and the application generates a password using the default parameters.
- Click Recents.
A list of your most recently copied passwords opens. For each password, you can view the date and time when it was copied to the Clipboard for the first time.
- If you want to copy a password to the clipboard, click Copy next to the password.
The password is copied to the clipboard.
- If you want to clear the Password Generator history, click Clear All.
Your copied passwords are deleted from the history.

Sign out of My Kaspersky
All devices connected to the same My Kaspersky account have access to and sync with the same cloud storage. If you want to use a different vault, sign out and then sign in with another My Kaspersky account.
Sign out of My Kaspersky
- Do one of the following:
- In the lower-left corner of the main application window, click your email address.
- Open the application pull-down menu and choose Sync status.
- In the window that opens, click Switch Account.
- In the You will be signed out of My Kaspersky window, click Sign Out to confirm that you want to sign out of your current My Kaspersky account.
You are now disconnected from My Kaspersky.
Note: To continue using Kaspersky Password Manager on the device, you must sign in to a My Kaspersky account again.
