Kaspersky Password Manager for Microsoft Windows

What to do if you have forgotten the main password

For security reasons, Kaspersky Password Manager doesn't store the main password on any of your devices or in cloud storage. We recommend that you memorize your main password, or write it down and keep it in a secure place, because it can't be restored or recovered if forgotten.

If you forget your main password, you will no longer be able to access your data. In this case, you will have to create a new vault and protect it with a new main password. Then you will be able to add new data to the vault.

You can save a backup copy of your vault before deleting it. You can use it to restore your data if you remember your main password. When creating a backup copy of the vault, Kaspersky Password Manager exports entries to a file stored on your device. The backup copy is protected by the main password used when the backup copy was created. The backup copy is stored in encrypted form in EDB format. By default, Kaspersky Password Manager creates backup copies in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Kaspersky Password Manager\Backup.

Create a new vault protected with a new main password

  1. In the Vault is locked window, click Forgot your main password?.
